Gmail Now Lets You View Word Docs in Your Browser
by Ranju Chaudhary on Jun.26, 2010, under Latest Web Technologies, What's Happening?
Gmail now supports the ability to view Microsoft Word documents in your browser with a single click. The Google Docs viewer that handles the new duties already provides one-click viewing of PDF, Powerpoint and TIFF files.
The Word Doc viewing functionality works the same way as it does for the other supported file formats; simply click the “View” link at the bottom of a Gmail
message with a Word doc attached to see the file displayed in your browser, without having to open a separate application. From there you can also download the document to your desktop or click “Edit online” to go straight into edit mode in Google Docs
.
It’s a small update with big productivity implications for those who use and share Word docs frequently. What other file formats should Gmail support with one-click viewing?
Google Wave’s Quick, New Wave Templates Guide Your Wave Use
by neetika on Apr.22, 2010, under Graphic Design, Latest Web Technologies

As excited as some of us still are about Google Wave, Wave’s biggest problem remains: “What would I use it for?” With the app’s new wave templates, Google wants to guide you toward answers.
Now when you visit Wave, the New Wave panel (and the new wave button) offer options for starting waves using templates for common use cases. Gina and I highlighted some of our favorite, creative Wave use cases over at The Complete Guide to Google Wave, but the new templates offer a really helpful jumping off point for collaborating in Wave for common uses, like discussions, task tracking, meeting notes, document creation, and brainstorming. You can still stick with the default blank wave, but it’s seems like a step in the right direction to help new users get familiar with the tool.
