Google Goggles Now Translates Text in Photos
by neetika on May.07, 2010, under Latest Web Technologies
In February we learned that a future version of Google Googles would translate text in photos. The future is here — Google Goggles v.1.1 for Android 1.6 and higher can now read and translate English, French, Italian, German and Spanish language text.
The Google Goggles translation feature is pretty simple to use. Simply point-and-shot a word or phrase by drawing a box around desired text and snapping a photo. Should Google recognize the text, you can then select the translate button and define the source and destination languages for translation.
Google has also updated the app with better barcode recognition and enhanced photo recognition for products and logos for a better visual search experience. Ultimately, Google’s goal with Goggles is to solve “the technical challenges required to make computers see.”

iPhone 3G Running Android
by neetika on May.07, 2010, under Gadgets, Latest Web Technologies, Top Gadgets
We’ve already seen a first generation iPhone hacked into accepting the Android operating system, and now the same hacker, David Wang, has managed to install Android on an iPhone 3G.
By Wang’s own admission, this port is “slightly more rough” than the previous one, but you can use the Android OS to browse the web, send SMS, or run any app, as long as it doesn’t require audio support.
Wang promises to post the required binary files and the instructions on how to do this yourself in a couple of days. In the meantime, you can see how it works in the video below.
